Snowjam 2014!
OK, first to our northern friends we in the south give you props for hanging tough through months of bitter cold freezing temps, ice, horrible winds, not to mention horrid wind chill temps and piles of snow. You guys are tough.
Now, you may laugh, snicker and make fun of us Southerners at how everything shuts down, schools close, etc at the first snowflake BUT do know our little bit of 3″ that we, our area, got may only be here a few days and yet cause such a mess, we aren’t use to this, we aren’t prepared with snowmobiles or snowblowers or snow clearing trucks. It doesn’t stick around that long for any of that stuff, though yes in the big cities there are some salt trucks and due to piss poor decisions with gdot a lot of those trucks were sent south but the front moved north. Then some school districts, which shame on them, not closing in time to get kids home safely and though most kids made it home by 7p or a bit after most are stuck at the schools, stranded on buses that are stuck and parents stuck and stranded trying to get their kids.
Tons of strangers coming to stranded people, opening their homes if they are close by, offering food and a warm place to stay. Southern hospitality, yea we still got it.
Must also point out there are kids who need meds for seizures, diabetes and other illnesses which they don’t have due to being stranded.
People who made it home were stuck in this mess as long as 12 hrs! That’s without a bathroom, no water, no food, no meds, some run out of gas, some left their vehicles to walk miles to nearest warm place.
So, yea it is a big deal here. We aren’t use to this. But could use some prayers for ones stranded for their safety.
Our big 3″ of snow on our 4 acres in the sticks. Not piles I know but enough to cause a horrible mess.
